Berry and I went to the Shelby Farms Park in Memphis. This large city park has open grasslands and stands of hardwood trees. There is a plot of bamboo which provides food for the pandas at the zoo. In the hardwood and pine trees, next to its agricultural experimentation plots, we saw the bird of the day. The
Blue Grosbeak(Passerina caerulea) is a beautiful blue bird with a brown wing bar. It is in the Cardinal family. We found it flitting around the base of a pine tree, foraging for pine cones on the needle strewn floor of a pine copse there at Shelby Farms.
