This is a birding blog, but here is a photo of a large Golden Garden Spider, also called the Orb Weaver, or even the Writing Spider, because of the zigzag squiggle it writes in its web to attract curious insects.
We have one in the backyard, between our holly bushes and the fence. Including the legs, it is about the size of a wallet.
